I love this game (glad I waited to buy with all the extras thrown in).

Seriously, the game is better than the first one and the free maps put the icing on the cake.

The maps are not on the disk (you get a code to download the maps) but this is not a problem for me.

Gears of War was a breath of fresh air when it came out. It had amazing graphics, unique and perfectly refined combat, and an online combat that is hard to beat. So all that was required with the sequel was to refine the first, and make it more refined. In this, the game succeeds. The levels have improved the “get stuck in one area and bombarded by bad guys” issues that were so constant throughout the first game. Not only is there a longer and more interesting campaign, there’s more to do, and a new variety of actions. The graphics have been updated, and I must say, this game is far more fun with a friend through the campaign than on its own, though that is pretty fun as well. An A-List title that is great fun.

As to the game of the year edition, there’s no reason to get it if you own the game already, as all you get are some codes to download the extra content. However, if you don’t have it, then this is the edition to get, as the down-loadable content is almost as much as this full game. Overall its one of the best games you can get for the xbox 360, and a worthy edition to your collection. Highly recomended!

The original Gears of War wasn’t the all mighty game that a lot of people claimed it to be, it had dozens glitches and was a short game that didn’t offer much replay value.

However, with the sequel, these problems are unseen. The game is three times longer than it’s predecessor, has a steady frame-rate, even better online multiplayer (but still has lag problems, unfortunately), and to top it off, truely amazing graphics.

STORY: The sequel picks up a couple of months after the original, the locust have returned with a force even more agressive than before and have begun to sink entire cities.

On a side note, the game contains a very intresting sub-plot, Dom (Marcus’ best friend and brother in arms) is searching for his wife Maria throughout the game. This was a great decision on EPIC’s part to include this in the game because it gives you a reason to like the main characters even more and also gives you an even better reason to hate the locust.

GAME-PLAY: While still heavy and sometimes clunky, it is even more violent and in your face then any game out there. It plays nothing like the original, in my opinion anyway. This game has set the bar for third person shooters in almost every way possible

GRAPHICS: Polished to near perfection, with minor pop-in and frame-rate issues, this is the best looking game on the xbox 360. (At least for the time being)

GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION: This edition of the game includes all the downloadable maps. These maps are the selling point of this edition (but you must have xbox live to download them), plus “The Road to Ruin” deleted scene is a lot better than parts of the regular game.

THE VERDICT: If don’t already own this game, then this is the perfect package.

  • This edition is exactly the original game, shrink-wrapped on it’s own, same UPC code/SKU/part number. The card with the download key for the extra content is separate from that shrink-wrapped package, outside the original game, and the two pieces -original game and download card- are packaged again, with the GOTY packaging.

So you could buy this for the extra maps and mission alone, and resell (or even return) the game CD itself, as the standard GOW 2 product.

    Oh, yeah, great game.

I own Gears 2, but not any of the DLC packs. When I found out about this edition I decided to trade in my copy of Gears 2 and purchase the Game of the Year Edition. This way I could play and get achievements for all the content I haven’t downloaded. Well, I’m glad I looked it up online and found out that it comes with everything I already have, just with a code to download all the crap I don’t. This is lazy on Epic part. Can’t they just put it all on the disc? I mean, come on. I don’t want to fill my hard drive with DLC.
