  • The case was fairly easy to assemble once I finally figured out how to get the old case apart. There was no instructions with my case which annoyed me as I was slightly afraid to rip apart an 200 dollar investment. Once i had it apart i removed all the screws off of the metal casing which was a big mistake. You only need to remove the 5 long screws which are mostly on the corners of the case. I suggest looking up the instructions on google and before you take your dvd drive apart make sure its either Samsung or Hitachi. Mine was Phillips I believe and the dvd drive see-through top would not work so I stole parts off another drive which then really messed up my system and I had to return the drive to normal.

Pros: Black, very cool lighting, a lot lighter then original, and seems to stay cooler.(but i also bought led higher performance fans as you can find on this page)

Cons: I could not use the dvd top, make xbox feel flimsy(although i like the fact its lighter), light around power button is not focused into an ring just goes every direction(make it look dull), Instructions not included

Over all this is a very good product and very cool. I just wish they had instructions. One tool is a long piece of metal that is very convenient but without instructions you have no idea its to release clips on the back and sides of the console.

  • This is a really good case, it comes with everything you need to take the old case apart, and put this one on. It includes a kit, which was a huge plus. The only thing that the kit didn’t come with, were rubber feet to put on the bottom portion of the case. (Not a big deal, but it would’ve been nice)

I tore apart my Xbox Elite and realized that there was a clear piece that you can put over top the DVD drive. I was a bit wary of tearing apart my DVD drive, but I looked for it on here [Amazon] and found out that it was only $40 if I messed it up. I had the BenQ Lite-on drive, and that was a bit of work to get finished. Once I had that done, I figured out where I was going to mount my LEDs that came with the case. I decided that on both sides of the case would be fine. The plug for the LEDs works as a bridge from your DVD drive, to the DVD drive power plug. Once everything was in place, I put the case together. Everything came together nicely until I got to the back portion of the case – it wouldn’t completely snap together. Everything seemed to be a really tight fit.

Once everything was together I plugged it in to test it, it looked really sweet. Once I took a DVD out and placed another in, I got a hardware error. But after tweaking the DVD drive, it fixed the problem.

Another issue, although not a big deal, is the power button. You really have to press hard on the button in order for it to work. Also, this was noted in a previous review, but the LEDs in the Xbox are scattered in all directions (as opposed to being focused on the plastic on the OEM case). This makes it hard to distinguish if the Xbox is on, and if any controllers are connected in a bright lit room.

Aside from those few quirks, it is a really good case.

  • Excellent product. I absolutely love it. I like black and blue (my 2 favorite colors). When my 360 is off it just looks black and then you get the background lights when it is on. Take your time when you put it together, I didn’t and snapped a clip off of the back. It is durable though and still looks good.

  • Adam says:

Luckily, I read the directions from GC’s website before attempting this. I’ll start out on a positive note, it looks awesome after you get it on the XBOX.

That being said, (with the DVD mod) it took me almost 4 hours to get this thing perfect, even then it’s about a 97% good fit.

I have BenQ drive, and the DVD mod fits the drive, but requires a small shim to bring the plastic piece down a little bit (I rolled up a small piece of electrical tape to shim with and placed it between the side of the drive and one of the plastic clips. Only on one side is needed).

My drive was a little lopsided from the day M$ sent it back to me after a 3RLoD repair, so I also had to shim the drive up a little bit so the door would open with the new case.

The case does not clip together (or unclip) very easily, it does eventually though.

THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR WHEN INSTALLING:

    1) There is a metal tab on the back of the XBOX internal body, bend that in, or the case won’t line up.

    2) Test the DVD drive before you put on the top panel, then test after you put on the top panel. The tightening of the screws can sometimes cause the drive to bend a little, but this would be enough to cause an issue. If it is buzzing, back off the tightness on the screws for the drive (there are four on the bottom that go through the drive posts).

    3) Bend the metal tab on the back of the XBOX internal case, or the shell will not line up right.

    4) Watch the clips on the face plate, I broke one… they’re very fragile. (bought a carbon FP, looks awesome).

    5) You can route the wire for the LEDs under the DVD drive so you don’t have to worry about it getting caught in the disc drive.

    6) Check your drive door alignment BEFORE attaching the bottom, if it looks crooked, I can almost guarantee the door won’t open when you put it all together.

    7) Line the vent holes up on the back to ensure proper alignment.

That’s it, good luck. After it’s all done, it looks great! Remember, the smoke case doesn’t really show off much of the inside, it’s hard to see in there. If you’re going for super transparency go for the clear case.
